Reviews

Disappointed

"This vest was paper thin and looked like it would rip easily. When I put it on over my jersey you could barely see the reflective material because the vest was so translucent. I'm very disappointed and will be returning this item"

— Gail M. (5/5)

Lightweight and pretty vest

"Just what I was looking for. A lightweight vest to block the wind. The small fit me well and is not form fitting. 62 inches tall, 120 lbs, chest 33 inches."

— Donna S. (5/5)

Great light summer morning vest

"This vest is perfect for summer. I found it a bit too light for early morning rides in early Oct. Fit and its bright colour makes it fun and keeps you visible. I feel it only offers wind protection without insulation."

— Angela B. (4/5)

Comfortable fit (not too tight/not

"Comfortable fit (not too tight/not loose) that is cool in the desert heat. Folks have remarked on the visibility of the yellow color. Definitely my go-to vest for daytime rides! Only (very minor) criticism is the neckline, which sticks up a bit too far on my short neck. However, it does provide sun protection."

— Sarah S. (5/5)

Mistral Vest

"LOVE, LOVE LOVE...fits the bill for what I've been searching for. Color is bright and cheerful and will be great for wind and just a bit of needed protection. Lightweight vest not for cold conditions."

— Carol B. (5/5)

I love the color and

"I love the color and the extreme lightness of this vest. Yesterday I wore it over my very light jersey with a bike jacket over, and it was perfect. I look forward to wearing just the vest over my jersey when it gets a little warmer here 😊"

— Katherine F. (5/5)

Light & packable

"I loved my Mistral bike jacket so much that I had to have the vest. I've worn it a couple of times now & it's great. Light weight & comfortable, bright so I am seen on the roads, comfortable, easily packed. I have an older Pearl Izumi jacket/vest combo I still like for colder weather, but the Mistral is my favorite."

— Nadine S. (5/5)

Beautiful super light fuchsia vest.

"I love this vest and I love the matching jacket. They are both really light and great for warm weather cycling and they are so pretty!"

— Robin H. (5/5)

Mistral packable vest

"Just received the vest and was excited to try it on. Unfortunately it has an odd fit to it. The arm openings extend way beyond my shoulder and this causes the chest area to be way too big. This is the first time that I have had to return something that I have ordered from Terry. I ordered a medium and it fits well at the hip but not at the chest. I am 5'6" and 140#"

— Adrienne (2/5)

Pink vest

"This vest is perfect with a long sleeve shirt for temps between 60 and 70 degrees. For cool days in the low 60's I have worn the vest with a flannel backed top. It keeps just enough heat in."

Q&A

Questions & Answers

The Mistral Packable Bike Vest is windproof and water-resistant, not waterproof. Its PFA-free DWR finish sheds brief drizzle, which helps when weather turns briefly during a ride, but it is not built for sustained rain. Riders who regularly ride through steady rain should choose a true rain jacket like the Emergency 3 Bike Rain Jacket or the Lupra 2.0 Bike Jacket, which are seam-taped and purpose-built to keep you dry in prolonged wet conditions.

The Mistral Packable Bike Vest is for riders who want to block wind chill on their core while keeping their arms completely free. With a 100% nylon ripstop body and a windproof shell construction, it's ideal for variable-temperature rides where you might warm up mid-ride, and for layering over a jersey or long-sleeve on cool, breezy days. Because it packs into its own rear zip pocket, it suits riders who want protection available without committing to wearing it the whole ride.

The Mistral Packable Bike Vest is designed to disappear when you don't need it. It stuffs into its own 7.5 inch rear zip pocket, and that bundle then stows easily in a jersey pocket. The vest is weightless and translucent, built from ultra-lightweight ripstop with strong tear resistance, so carrying it adds almost nothing to your ride. This makes it a practical choice when you're unsure whether wind or chill will arrive and want a shell on hand just in case.

Both the Mistral Packable Bike Vest and the Mistral Packable Bike Jacket share the same packable, windproof construction, so the choice comes down to arm coverage. The vest protects your core against wind chill while leaving your arms fully free for mobility and ventilation, which many riders prefer when their arms warm up quickly. Choose the Mistral Packable Bike Jacket instead if you want sleeve wind protection as well, for colder or more exposed conditions where bare arms would feel the chill.

The Mistral Packable Bike Vest adds core warmth by blocking wind, but it has no insulation and relies on your layers underneath to hold heat. It shines during temperature variability over a jersey or long-sleeve in cool, breezy conditions. If most of your riding is in genuinely cold temperatures, you'll be better served by an insulated option like the Velocity Thermal Bike Jacket.

The Mistral Packable Bike Vest is detailed specifically for riding. It has rear shoulder stretch panels so you stay mobile in a riding position, a hem drawcord to seal out wind at the waist, and a reflective front zipper with a three-quarter inch wind flap to cut drafts through the zip line. Reflective taping at the rear adds visibility in low light. These details reflect Terry's focus on women's cycling comfort, making the vest genuinely functional rather than just a generic windbreaker.

The Mistral Packable Bike Vest has a semi-fitted cut, designed by Terry with women's cycling in mind. It's close enough to layer smoothly over a jersey without flapping in the wind, while leaving room for a long-sleeve layer underneath during cooler rides. The hem drawcord lets you adjust the fit at the waist to seal out drafts. If you're between sizes or layering heavily, Terry's fit and sizing guides can help you choose the cut that works best over your typical riding kit.

The Mistral Packable Bike Vest is a windproof shell meant to go over your other layers and pack away when the sun comes out. If what you actually want is a warm core layer you wear as your main garment rather than a shell on top, a jersey format makes more sense. Consider the Thermal Full Zip Bike Jersey, which gives you thermal core warmth with a full zip for venting, built to be worn as a primary layer rather than stowed in a pocket.
